Chairs for a Russian Count
Our large scale fine art reprint showing furniture designs by Napoleon’s star architects Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine, who formed the avant-garde of the new post-revolutionary style which saw the great revival of the aesthetic principles of Antiquity. The years of the two partners’ greatest fame were those of Napoleon’s reign with prestigious commissions in the transformation of Paris, the restoration of Versailles or the important refurbishment of Château de Malmaison for impératrice Joséphine. From the architecture to the interior details, everything was designed and drawn by their hands. Percier and Fontaine published several books with their designs. We have reproduced five original engravings showing designs for furniture for an international clientele, dating between 1801 and 1812. The purity of the lines and the intricacy of detail remain sharp and stylish after more than 200 years.
